Pain in the underside of the foot, particularly in the heel area, is often caused by Plantar Fasciitis.

The condition involves inflammation and sometimes micro-tears have occurred in the Plantar Fascia – this is the thick band of soft tissue that runs across the sole of the foot.

What causes it I hear you say?   It’s often seen in runners especially those new to the activity, those who have increased their training load or wearing footwear with little support.  It’s a general overuse injury that can be suffered by those on their feet all day.

How do I know if I have it? You may feel a stabbing pain in the bottom of your foot near to your heel.  The pain is usually worse in the first few steps of walking and in severe cases it can be difficult to bear weight until the area has loosened.

Elevate Soft Tissue Therapy will make a thorough assessment of your condition and use numerous techniques to help release the tension deep within the foot and surrounding areas – especially if you have been compensating due to the pain.

Post Treatment Advice will be given too. Examples being to rest from specific activity such as running; and changing to swimming or rowing.  There are other self-help options such as rolling a ball under the sole of the foot, or a plastic bottle filled with cold water or ice.
